Executive summary
A fast-scaling international e-commerce brand selling consumer products across Amazon, Shopify, and European retail platforms was struggling to keep pace with its own growth. As the product catalogue expands rapidly, the demand for high-quality, consistent visual assets across multiple channels became impossible to meet through traditional photography. Studio shoots are expensive, turnaround time (TAT) is high, and scaling across dozens of product variants was quickly becoming a bottleneck to every new launch.
Challenges
- Basic product photos lacking the premium quality needed for competitive listings
- Inconsistent lighting and setups across shoots, creating fragmented branding
- Expensive studio shoots required for every new product launch
- No scalable system to keep up with regular SKU releases
Process Overview
The team focuses on creating high-quality 3D product visuals for new SKUs and Products.
The goal is to develop clean, realistic, and market-ready visuals suitable for e-commerce, marketing, and product communication.
The full 3D workflow is executed from reference analysis to final rendering. The primary objective was to accurately recreate the form, finish, and premium feel of the physical product while presenting it in a polished and visually compelling way.
Objective
The main objective of this project is to create professional 3D product renders that:
- Accurately represent the real product design
- Highlight the product’s modern and ergonomic form
- Provide clean hero renders and contextual lifestyle-style compositions
Project Contribution
This process involves end-to-end responsibility for the full 3D production pipeline, including:
Reference & Planning Phase
The project begins with collecting real product photos and competitor references. These references are used to study:
- Overall product proportions
- Charging case shape and hinge behaviour
- Earbud curvature and wearable form
- Material finish and surface quality
- The visual presentation style of similar products in the market
.
PureRef is used to organize references efficiently and keep visual comparisons accessible throughout the modelling process. This helped improve both accuracy and workflow efficiency.

3D Modelling Process
The product is modelled in Autodesk Maya.
The process begins with blocking out the primary forms of the earbuds and charging case to match the real product silhouette. Once the base shapes were established, the geometry is refined to achieve a cleaner and more premium industrial-design appearance.
Special attention is given to:
- The rounded form of the charging case
- The smooth open-ear hook design
- Part separation lines
- Speaker and control areas
- Balanced curvature for a realistic consumer-product appearanc
The modelling process focused on maintaining clean and efficient geometry while preserving smooth shading and accurate form transitions. Since the product relies heavily on soft surfaces and subtle curvature, topology control played an important role in achieving a believable final render.

UV Unwrapping
After the modelling stage is complete, the next step is UV unwrapping.
The goal is to prepare the model for better material distribution and cleaner surface appearance. The UV layout is carefully arranged to maintain:
- Even texel distribution
- Reduced stretching
- Clean shell organization
- Better control over visible surfaces
Well-structured UVs are essential for preserving a clean and consistent product finish, especially on curved surfaces where poor mapping can quickly reduce realism.
Material & Texture Development
The texturing and material setup are completed in KeyShot.
Materials are developed to match the intended product finish using a combination of:
- Smooth matte surfaces
- Slightly reflective premium plastic behaviour
- Subtle contrast between product parts
As a minimalist consumer electronics product, the materials needed to feel refined without appearing overly glossy or artificial. The focus remains on achieving a realistic soft-touch appearance with enough reflection to define shape and form.

Lighting & Rendering
The rendering phase was completed in KeyShot using a 3 Panels Tilted 4K studio light setup.
- This lighting configuration helped create:
- Soft, controlled highlights
- Smooth reflections across curved surfaces
- Strong edge definition
- A clean studio-product presentation
The lighting is intentionally kept simple and professional, so the product form remained the central focus. This setup works particularly well for the rounded charging case and curved earbud surfaces, producing elegant highlight transitions without overexposing the materials.
Following the main lighting setup, colour correction is also applied through image settings to improve:
- Tonal balance
- Contrast
- Clarity of highlights
- Overall visual polish
These final adjustments helped the renders feel more refined and presentation ready.
Final Output
The final render set includes:
- A clean hero-style exploded view
- Product presentation renders with multiple parts visible
- Lifestyle-inspired product placement visuals
- Close-up views highlighting material finish and design quality
These visuals are created to present the product as premium, functional, and easy to understand for online customers.

Challenges
One of the key challenges in this project is maintaining realism while working from photo references and competitor visuals rather than full engineering data. This requires close attention to proportion, surface quality, and product detailing.
Another challenge is achieving a realistic look on minimal surfaces. Because the design is smooth and simple, the quality of the final output depends heavily on:
- Mesh cleanliness
- Subtle material tuning
- Accurate reflections
- Controlled studio lighting

Result
The result is a set of polished 3D visuals that communicate the product clearly and professionally. The renders present the earbuds and charging case in a way that feels modern, premium, and ready for e-commerce or marketing use.
This project demonstrates the ability to transform physical product references into well-executed 3D visualizations through a complete professional workflow.
